Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 690 chipset with sub-6GHz 5G, Wi-Fi 6

Qualcomm has introduced the sixth generation mobile chip set with 5G support. The Snapdragon 690 is built on an 8nm processor. It is the successor to the Snapdragon 675. The new chipset uses an X51 modem. The chipset is part of Qualcomm's efforts to make the 5G more affordable. HMD, LG, Motorola, Sharp, TCL and WingTech will soon launch Launch your devices with the new chipset.

The new Snapdragon 690 chipset supports sub-6Ghz SA, NSA and Global 5G bands. Qualcomm did not add mmWave support to the SD690. Its support is included in the high-end 7 Series and 8 Series 5G chipsets such as the Snapdragon 865 and 765 G.

The new chipset has a 20% higher CPU speed and 60% better graphics performance than the Snapdragon 675.

The new chipset features not only 5G support but also HDR video recording capability at 4K @ 30fps. It supports images up to 192MP. It also supports new video encoding.

The Snapdragon 690 has a 120 Hz refresh rate. It also supports Full HD Plus and Quick Charge 4 Plus. It supports Wi-Fi 6 on Qualcomm's FastConnect 6200 system. It also includes a fifth-generation AI engine, the ARCSOFT, dubbed the Hexagon Tensor Accelerator or HTA. This greatly improves the use of real-time snap chat filters.

Devices for this chipset will be launch in the second half of this year.
